Award of Merit for ‘Grace Hotel Santorini’

The IES Illumination Awards honor outstanding achievements in lighting design, recognizing projects that demonstrate exceptional creativity, technical proficiency, and the transformative power of light in architectural and environmental contexts.‘Grace Hotel Santorini’ was awarded a 2017 IES Illumination Award of Merit for its interior and exterior lighting design.

The design of the luxury boutique Hotel was focused on the unification of all areas in a holistic design philosophy, with respect to the individuality of each space, in terms of function, materials and special features. Aiming to follow the simplicity and purity of the architecture, the lighting study for all interior areas was based on a purely architectural lighting with minimum use of decorative elements. All outdoor areas were illuminated in order to keep a consistent night image from different views.

Budget restrictions were heavily present on the project and additional care was put to the selection of luminaires, that would support the design concept and the high-end result and still fit the limited budget. Local manufacturers were preferred and custom-made luminaires were design to suit both purpose and budget.
